NONSWING
March 2020. Faced with an unexpected tax bill of £21.12, and with the pandemic blocking opportunities to do group busking, the Herb Garden had to think outside the box. How could we raise that kind of FAST cash when we had no new material to release? Swing! That’s what we have to do. It’s popular. From grandparents in Lossiemouth to the youth of Hitchin (well some of them anyway), swing was the sound of now! Or more accurately, then.
We got our manager, Gordon to open negotiations with Groin Associates (who turned out to be a pain but..), the representatives of a certain Mikey Bubble, crooner extraordinaire, about the idea of a “Mike Sings Herbs” swing album. They seemed unusually enthusiastic. So we tasked Rat, who had a captive, if not a little belligerent and ripe, swing orchestra in his shed, to rustle up some demos.
Rat turned to our kind of major label effort, AND to re-work with a loose, jazz-club, smoking too many cigarettes vibe and this is the result. The project never saw the light of day so we had to go into tax exile (better not say where) until quite recently. As It turns out, Groin Associates thought that our manager had some connection to Herb Albert not Herb Garden, so our re-workings were not for them as frankly they didn’t have a clue who we were. Mikey Bubble – pah – more like Mikey BULBOUS.
Still, enjoy this if you can. Who knows? An album of alternative versions of Herb Garden tunes might be something that could see light of day. Maybe next year’s John Lewis advert will be one of ours?
lyrics
Now - come join the fun
In the game of family consumption
And populate, yeah calculate
How much one species can really take
Nonsense - this world is overpopulated
Nonsense - to destruction dedicated
Set the wheels to Oblivion
'Cos where will we be in a hundred years on?
Nonsense - this world is overpopulated
Nonsense - to destruction dedicated
Marketing déjà vu. Nonsense rules shooting at you
Marketing déjà vu. Nonsense rules shooting at you
So - reproduce and take your view
That this world is out to TAKE
So - shape your face, I know your place
It will seal the fate of the human race
Nonsense - this world is overpopulated
Nonsense - this place is near exacerbated
All you can sing about is your phoney love
But where will we be in a hundred years on?
Nonsense - this world is overpopulated
Nonsense - to destruction dedicated
Marketing déjà vu. Nonsense rules shooting at you
Marketing déjà vu. Nonsense rules shooting at you
Huh! (Whoaarrghh!i!)
Now - take this weight that man has made
In this world that he conceives is really fake
Take this weight and call a break
To these decadent feasts that seal our fate
Nonsense - this world is overpopulated
Nonsense - to destruction dedicated
A monosodium glutamate fix from an almighty corporate fist
Nonsense - this world is overpopulated
Nonsense - to destruction dedicated
Marketing déjà vu. Nonsense rules shooting at you
Marketing déjà vu. Nonsense rules shooting at you
